PAWS FOR APPLAUSE PET COSTUME CONTEST AT THE CAROLINA THEATRE

Durham, N.C. - On Saturday, October 29 the Durham Civic Center Plaza will serve as center stage for area pets and their owners in the 2nd Paws for Applause - Pet Costume Contest and Fundraiser to benefit the Carolina Theatre of Durham, Inc., a downtown Durham non-profit performing arts organization.   The event runs from 1 – 3 PM with registration beginning at noon.  Proceeds raised that day will support the programs of the Carolina Theatre.

“Paws for Applause is meant to keep the FUN in our fundraising while reaching out to people in our community that aren't as familiar with the Carolina Theatre and its mission.” said Christopher Crabtree, Board of Trustees member for the Carolina Theatre. “We hope it will bring many new faces to the theater and inspire them to be active downtown and at the Carolina.”

Sponsors of the family-friendly event include Chic-fil-a, Sunny Acres Pet Resort, Harris Teeter, Pampered Pooch, Inc., Lars Oliver’s Hair Design, and Spartacus Restaurant.  Independent Animal Rescue will be onsite with pet adoption information.  Pet food donations are welcome and will benefit the animals of Independent Animal Rescue, a non-profit no-kill shelter for the Triangle. 

Registration is $25 per pet and all contestants can receive $5 off entrance fee with a pet food donation for Independent Animal Rescue.  The Grand Prize winner will receive two year-long movie passes to the Carolina Theatre Cinema.  Other Prizes will be awarded to winners of Best Costume, Pet/Person Match, Best Behaved and Best Smile.
