Ron Maxwell’s LITTLE DARLINGS

Original Theatrical Version

In the category of “Movies that would never get made today,” Little Darlings probably sits high atop the pile.  Never released on DVD or Bluray, here is an ultra-rare chance to see the theatrical version (including the original music) of this sex comedy about a two teenage girls at a summer camp who compete to see which one will lose their virginity first.

Academy Award-winner Tatum O'Neal stars as Ferris, a naive but sexually-aware rich girl on the make with the older camp swimming instructor Gary (Armand Assante).  Her rival in this race for deflowering is streetwise and chain-smoking Angel (‘70s icon Kristy McNichol), who is quick to point out: "Don't let the name fool you." She sets her sights on the young Randy (Matt Dillon, in his second film), an equally streetwise boy attending the camp across the lake. The process becomes a bonding exercise for the two girls, who take divergent paths to their end goal and in dealing with the aftermath of the alleged big events. Little Darlings was a massive box office hit and landed in the Top 20 highest-grossing films of 1980.
