The Glitter and the Pizzazz: Transgender Shorts

The Glitter and the Pizzazz

Transgender Shorts - Roxanne, Black is Blue, Passing, Prinsesa, A Place in the Middle

A cold and isolated transgender sex worker takes in a young girl who has been abandoned by her mother, and her life is thrown into question in Roxanne. Cheryl Dunye’s Black is Blue tells the story of Black, an African American Trans man, who works as a security guard inside an apartment complex in Oakland, California. Passing profiles three trans men of color, exploring what life feels like for a black man when no one knows he is transgender.  A Filipino-American father reacts to the gender-identity questions of his young son in Prinsesa.  In A Place in the Middle, eleven year old Ho'onani dreams of leading the hula troupe at her inner-city Honolulu school. The only trouble is that the group is just for boys.
