Evening Shadows

Closing Night Selection

Kartik is a photographer living a contented life with his boyfriend in Mumbai, far from the prying eyes of his religious family. Upon returning to his conservative hometown in Southern India, he is shocked to discover that his overbearing father has arranged to marry him off to his childhood friend, Neela. Feeling tremendous pressure from his family, Kartik impulsively comes out to his mother, the only person who has ever really attempted to understand him. His decision presents serious ramifications that could not only destroy his relationship with his parents, but also threaten his safety and well-being. Evening Shadows is a tender and heartwarming story about familial bonds, providing vital insight into LGBT people in India and the struggles they face in order to be accepted, even within their own families.
