Albert Magnoli's PURPLE RAIN & Susan Seidelman's DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN

Albert Magnoli's PURPLE RAIN 35th Anniversary Presentation! (R, 1984, 111min)

This special presentation honors the thrid anniversary of the death of Prince, who passed away on April 21, 2016. When Prince exploded onto the pop-culture scene in 1984, it seemed there was nothing the purple one couldn't do. The film is basically a feature-length music video, but no musician has ever had a better showcase for his talents. The plot (about the son of an abusive father struggling not to continue the pattern) is just a theme upon which to hang some of Prince's most dazzling songs.
