Vienna Teng and Alex Wong
Singer/pianist Vienna Teng and percussionist Alex Wong have crafted a sound that veers from intimate to epic and back again in music that the Associated Press called “gorgeous and haunting.”
Reaching the national spotlight at the end of 2002, pianist Vienna Teng had been an important part of the California singer/songwriter scene for a few years before then. Teng's early influences were Simon & Garfunkel, James Taylor, Mozart, Beethoven and 60s Mandarin pop. Later influences include Elton John, Billy Joel and Tori Amos. Writing intimate songs that detail the issues of a young adult, her music falls between the uptempo approach of Ben Folds and the theatrical chamber pop of Rufus Wainwright. After touring with musicians like Joan Osborne, Shawn Colvin, and Patty Griffin and Duncan Sheik, Teng relocated from California to New York City in 2008, and began work on her fourth full-length album, Inland Territory, which was released in 2009. Inland Territory won the the Best Singer-Songwriter Album of 2009 at the Independent Music Awards Vox Populi. Their newest CD The Moment Always Vanishing: Vienna Teng & Alex Wong, recorded live in December 2009 is now available on iTunes.
