Shelby Lynne was raised in rural Alabama by musical parents who stressed the importance of individuality. She moved to Nashville after high school and signed with CBS Records. Billy Sherrill produced her debut, which included a duet with George Jones. After five albums in Nashville, she recorded I Am Shelby Lynne with producer Bill Bottrell in Northern Carlifornia, where she discovered John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band album. "John's emotional honesty set the tone for the way I want to write songs. John didn't care about hit records as much as powerful meaningful records." On the strentgh of I Am Shelby Lynne, she won the Best New Artist Grammy in 2000-after 13 years of recording. Love, Shelby was released in 2001, followed by Identity Crisis, Suit Yourself and Just a Little Lovin', her Dusty Springfield tribute. In 2010, Shelby released Tears, Lies, and Alibis and Merry Christmas and in 2011 Revelation Road, all on her own lable, EVERSO RECORDS.
Shelby signed to legendary Rounder Records in 2014 and in October celebrated the 15th anniversary of her landmark breakthrough album with the release of I Am Shelby Lynne Deluxe Edition. The 2-disc (1CD/1DVD) set features the re-mastered full-length album plus six previously unreleased bonus tracks from the original sessions. The special package also contains Shelby Lynne: Live at the House of Blues on DVD, a newly unearthed, never-before-released, 16-song, 90-minute concert performance captured at Los Angeles' House of Blues on April 28th, 2000. Additionally I Am Shelby Lynne has been issued for the first time ever on (180 gram) vinyl.
Lynne recently completed recording for Rounder at Louisiana's Dockstide studio on what will be her first album since 2011's critically lauded Revelation Road. The as-yet-untitled album is tentatively set for release in early 2015.
