Born in Wilmington North Carolina, Lynn is a 2003 graduate of West Brunswick High School (Shallotte, NC), having participated in Honors, All-County and All-State Jazz Band. In 2001-02 and 2002-03, Lynn was chosen to participate in the High School Honors Jazz Band, hosted by the University of North Carolina  at Greensboro (UNCG). He would later be awarded a scholarship to UNCG through the Miles Davis Jazz Studies Program. While an undergrad, he immersed himself in all genres of music and frequently performed when and wherever he could. He formed The Lynn Grissett Trio and Quartet in 2007 and was a regular at many of the local and statewide jazz venues. Lynn graduated from UNCG in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Performance (Concentration: Jazz Studies).

Eager to expand his musical endeavors beyond the formal setting of a classroom and the occasional gig, Lynn enrolled in Graduate School at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) of Durham. While there, Lynn had the incredible experience of studying music under the tutelage of Branford Marsalis, Robert Trowers, Dr. Ira T. Wiggins, Mr. Brian Horton, and Baron Tymas.

In 2011 Lynn was voted Best Jazz Soloist at the 50th Villanova Jazz Festival. Lynn obtained his master’s degree in Music Performance (Jazz Studies) in 2012.
