The Funk featuring Confunkshun, Zapp, and A Taste of Honey
During the 1970’s and early 80’s, Urban Music was dominated by what music lovers simply called “The Funk”.
With emphasis on danceable harmonies and melodies that brought electric bass and drums to the forefront, “Funk” music has influenced all genres of music that followed. Three of the most important artists from that era are Con Funk Shun, Zapp, and A Taste of Honey, featuring Janice Marie.
Signed by Mercury Records in 1976, Con Funk Shun released 11 albums over a span of 10 years. They scored a string of hits that include “Ffun”, “Got to be Enough”, and “Shake and Dance With Me”, just to name a few. The groups high energy, well-choreographed show have kept them in high demand worldwide for over 30 years, and they come to you by popular demand. You asked for them and you will get them.
Formed in 1978 by brothers Larry, Lester, Tony, Terry, and of course, the late Roger Troutman, Zapp emerged as the most unique of all the funk bands. With Roger’s genius use of “The Talk Box”, Zapp scored a string of hits that include the Funk Anthem, “More Bounce to the Ounce”, “Computer Love”, and “Dance Floor”. Their unique stage presentation has left fans breathless for decades. A must see for concert goers.
A Taste of Honey (featuring the lovely Janice Marie), is instrumental in bringing Funk Music and Disco. With a funky base line and three words, “Boogie Oogie Oogie”, Janice Marie and A Taste of Honey scored one of the biggest hits in the history of music. (Number One on all American music charts). A Taste of Honey followed up three years later with the smash ballard, “Sukiyaki”. An accomplished bass player, Janice Marie will have fans dancing till “you just can’t boogie no more.”
An Evening with Legends Concert Series continues with “The Funk”.
