Finally, renovations are winding down just in time for our reopening on Friday, September 30 with our first film of the fall, Main Street, filmed in 2010 in Durham. Our first Star Series show featuring Lindsey Buckingham will officially open our season on Saturday night, and I can’t tell you how good it feels to be back in show biz!

Renovation Update - Week 15

We've got more new carpet!

Remember those rolls of carpet we showed you last week?  Well, a lot of carpet is in place, but there's a lot more that needs to be installed.  The beautiful custom-designed carpet is down in both Kirby Lobby and cinema lobby.  It looks fabulous.  Why aren't there any pictures for you to see?  We want it to be a surprise, so you'll have to stop by as soon as we're open to see it first hand, but here's a hint; it print has both gold and red tones.

Renovation Update - Week 14

Speakers! Carpet!

It’s been a busy summer here at the theatre. We're all really ready to get back to the business of movies and shows! Today, I actually had to jump over the rolls of carpet in Fletcher Hall just to get to my office! Those giant rolls of carpet you saw last week are being installed this week.  So far, the upper balcony lobby and Connie Moses Ballroom are done, and the cinema lobby is looking good as well.  Now we just can’t wait to roll out the red carpet for you.

We're Having a Job Fair!

Because we are open 365 days per year, you must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays including Christmas.

Renovation Update - Week 13

Yes, we have no carpet!

Yes, we have no carpet, but that's good news! It means that the renovations will be complete soon.  We came in on Tuesday morning to find the crew pulling up the lobby carpet, and you can see in the photos how it looks right now.  It's quite a change to see bare floors in Kirby Lobby, but we've been assured that the new carpet is here and will be installed in time for our reopening on September 30 with a screening of the film Main Street. We just can't wait to see it!

Renovation Update - Week 12

This week it's all about sound.

This week it's all about sound.  We have good news for both concert and cinema fans because we're getting significant upgrades to our sound system.  We've added two (count 'em) two speakers to each side of the flown speaker arrays in Fletcher Hall.  These are JBL state-of -the art speakers that will enhance your concert experience. We've got a slew of great shows coming up in October, so you'll have many opportunities to see if you like the new sound!

Renovation Update - Week 11

Carpet!

Carpet! The past three days have been filled with excitement with old carpet flying everywhere (think Aladdin) in the administrative office and new carpet tiles taking the place of the old industrial blue (or was it gray?), carpet. The carpet tiles will stand up to lots of wear, and we’ll be able to replace one or several should the need arise, although the office staff are generally a very neat bunch! Now we can’t wait for the beautiful lobby carpet to arrive.

Renovation - Week Ten

It was great to have people back in the building last week for the 16th Annual NCGLFF!

It was great to have people back in the building last week for the 16th Annual NCGLFF!  The aroma of popcorn filled the air, and thousands of fans were able to enjoy four days of film, food and fun in the cinemas and outside on the plaza for the 2nd annual plaza party.

Renovation Update – Intermission

We've finished two parts of our four part renovation, so its time for an intermission!

We’re about halfway through the renovations this week and are taking a break from the dust and the paint to present the 16th Annual Gay and Lesbian Film Festival which started today at 1 p.m. and runs through Sunday. There is still some scaffolding up in Fletcher Hall, but we’ve been able to open up the center section of seats on the floor and in the first balcony. The view of the screen is great, but if you look to the side you can see that there’s quite a bit of work to finish.

Renovation Update - Week Eight

We finally got to see the new tile that's being installed in the men’s and women’s restrooms in the Connie Moses Ballroom.

We finally got to see the new tile that's being installed in the men’s and women’s restrooms in the Connie Moses Ballroom.  It’s not the hexagonal tiles that we were hoping for but the one-inch square black and white tiles have a nice retro look that goes well with the 1926 vibe of the building.  These particular restrooms won’t be finished in time for NCGLFF, but you will get a chance to see them when we open on Friday, September 30 for the screening of Main Street.
