Carolina Theatre Historic Exhibit

On Tuesday morning, we presented a preview of our all new historic exhibit chronicling the 85 year history of the Carolina Theatre complex to the press. This fascinating history of Durham’s beloved theater is told through stunning wall graphics of historic photos, reproductions of original blueprints, playbills and advertisements, and informational panels that recount the construction, life and later restorations of this great building.  Speakers included Bob Nocek, President/CEO of the Carolina Theatre and Chuck Samuels a representative from Design Dimension, Inc – the Raleigh firm responsible for the design and installation of the exhibit.

Please stop by and join us for the public ceremony with the unveiling of the completed exhibit on Saturday, November 5 at 6 p.m. just before the Boney James concert in the Carolina Theatre’s Fletcher Hall.

We still have a long way to go to complete our entire history exhibit.  This is only the beginning! Phase 2 - Restoring Hope will be a tribute to the dedicated volunteers of the 1970s and 1980s and will tell the story of Connie Moses and her quest to resurrect and restor the Carolina Theatre and ballroom that bears her name. We hope to have this phase completed in 2012.

Phase 3 - Confronting Change will open in 2013. This exhibit will tell the story of the integration of the Carolina and the people dedicated to making certain that their theatre, and their community had equal access for all.
